Chris is a keen supporter and ambassador for a number of organisations and charities, in particular:
This support website has been set up by a group of influential organisations within the horticulture industry to inform people about horticultural careers and the range of fantastic opportunities horticulture has to offer. The web portal is backed by a schools pack which includes series of posters and careers information leaflets.
The Alzheimer's Society
Chris has been pleased to support the Alzheimer's Society by running the London Bupa 10,000 two years running.
Classic FM's Music Appeal
Chris donated over a day of his time to visit and advise a couple who bid an amazing £6,000 to win this opportunity with all the money going to Classic FM's Christmas Appeal.
Oak & Furrows
The Oak & Furrows Wildlife rescue centre carried out a mission at Chris' home to rescue a young sparrow hawk who got into difficulty. After several months of careful care by Oak & Furrows Chris is looking forward to welcoming the sparrow hawk back so that it can be released back into its familiar habitat. Amazingly this small charity coped with over 3,000 rescue cases last year and offers 24/7 emergency line http://www.oandf.co.uk/
International Year of Biodiversity
The UK were appointed by the UN to run the International Year of Biodiversity in 2010 and Chris was a key supporter in this campaign coordinated by the Natural History Museum. Our company became a partner and we engaged other business to partner the initiative as well as providing information on our website about how we can all take steps to garden with a greater awareness of protecting our biodiversity. We set the theme of Biodiversity for our 2010 scholar who took the message to the Chelsea Flower Show. Work has continued under the UN's Decade of Biodiversity 2011-2021www.decadeonbiodiversity.net
As a diver, sailor and keen water person Chris is only too aware of the valuable work the RNLI carryout. He has donated funds from talks and events for many years.
In 2004 he was honoured to be asked to lend his name to a beautiful rose and when offered who he would like to receive proceeds from the sale he immediately put forwards the RNLI.
He was particularly proud to redesign a garden for the charity at the much loved National Memorial Arboretum which you can go and visit all year round. www.rnli.org.
The Woodland Trust
Chris has regularly supported the Woodland Trust's campaigns and has visited a number of their sites to help promote their work.
The Wildlife Trust
Chris has often said 'a garden without wildlife is a garden without soul' he can't imagine gardening and living without awareness of the care and nuture the creatures that surround us require.
Chris has been a long term supporter of the RSPB's work and has been delighted to help support their campaigns with letters of support. He has even helped them with their minibeast hotel which was showcased at BBC Gardeners' World Live. He loved creating a garden for the RSPB at their Teeside reserve so do visit if you can.
